Managing Principle

John@GoodsonWealth.com

As the founder and managing principle of Goodson Wealth Management, I see not just what is, but what can or will be. In short, I consider myself a man of vision and faith. It is this gift of belief in the future that fuels my endeavors as a financial advisor, luxury land developer and art gallery entrepreneur in my hometown of Sewanee, Tennessee. It is my goal to help my clients approach the future in the same way.

I founded Goodson Wealth Management in 2000, where I began offering a variety of financial products and services focused on the Middle Tennessee area. My career in the financial field began in 1992 as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investment Company. I obtained my BS in Business Management from Louisiana State University in 1983 and my MBA from the University of Dallas in 1988. I went on to hold sales and management positions from Westinghouse Cable TV (Dallas) and Sparrow Records (Nashville) before transitioning into the financial industry.

I currently serve as President of the Sewanee Business Alliance. I am the past president of Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary and Cowan Lions Club, and currently serve as a member on the Board of Housing Sewanee, Sewanee Civic Association, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and Otey Parrish Episcopal Church.

On a personal note, my wife’s name is Melissa and we have a son, Slater, and daughter, Mason. We’ve lived in Sewanee since 1994 alongside several horses, cats, dogs and a champion German Shepherd. His name is Ponto, in honor of my great-great grandfather General Edmund Kirby-Smith’s canine companion during the Civil War.

Throughout my time in the financial field, I’ve helped two trillion dollar asset management firms grow. In addition, I’ve built up a proprietary index firm that combined risk management and technical analysis to improve results for investors and give them a truly holistic market view.

I consider myself to be proficient in a variety of areas, which is evident through my work in helping thousands of financial advisors and clients during my 21-year career in the asset management industry. Previously, I earned my bachelor’s degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA.

Before joining Goodson Wealth, I worked for The Hartford Mutual Funds, American Funds and Victory Shares, where I led them to be a billion dollar index provider.
